Latest Day of Song - Handel Messiah held on 24 January 2009.
The latest Day of Song was a resounding success with 110 attendees from fifteen of our local choirs. The work this year was chosen to be Handel’s epic work ‘Messiah’, which we are set to perform at Birmingham Town Hall on April 11th 2009.
The level of ability meant that the conductor was able to work through a good variety of choruses, each making its own particular demands on the singers.
Colin Baines had provided some copies of the original Handel manuscript for perusal at lunchtime, so participants could gain some idea of the musicianship necessary when preparing an adequate contemporary performance.
A full report of the day can be seen here.

Day of Song - Brahms' Requiem.
However, subsequent "Days of Song" have been held in Selly Oak Methodist Church. In January 2005, the work covered was Brahms' Requiem. Most workshops on this Requiem are in English. Colin Baines was brave enough to take the workshop in German. The food was excellent as well!
Hosted by the Birmingham Choral Union, we welcomed some super singers from choirs through-out the West Midlands - and even some non-choral members just out for a fun day of singing and socialising. Below are some photographs of the day.

First Day of Song - Mendelssohn's Elijah.
Our first friendly "Open" choral practice was a great success! The event held at St Augustines Church, Edgbaston, on 4th November 2000 demonstrated that singing is really all about having fun.
