Farewell to a distinguished member

Nicholas BrooksIt is all too frequently the case that we never discover the true achievements of those close to us until we read their obituaries. This was certainly the case with Professor Nicholas Brooks (1941-2014). A genial companion, most conscientious in attendance at practice and performing at our concerts, he spoke little of the world of mediaeval scholarship where he was held in such high regard. His obituary reveals him as a distinguished Historian, archaeologist and authority on the Anglo-Saxons. His personal life was full of all sorts of different achievements and all who came into regular contact with him discovered a brilliant man and a warm friend.
